Yellow Belly is a reader-supported, independent effort to move away from yellow journalism — sensationalized stories, clickbait headlines, shady business practices, and billionaire-controlled media.
Journalism as we know it is dead and gone. Trust in the news is the lowest it’s been in forever, and media company CEOs continue to pander to the myth of the unbiased and the politicians they support. In journalism’s death, content creators rise from the ashes, becoming a suitable (but sometimes unreliable) alternative to what journalism once was. Instead of trying to bring back a gold standard of journalism that never existed to begin with, Yellow Belly aims to try something totally new and groundbreaking: News that analyzes mainstream stories from the past two weeks and elaborates on what most reporters miss during their fast-paced news cycle. Posts that present information in a thoughtful, digestible way so you can stay informed without falling down a rabbit hole of what-if’s, or what-the-fuck-does-that-mean’s. Open conversations that come directly from the journalists who write about this stuff!
Because I believe in full transparency, you should know that this newsletter is an effort that prioritizes queer and trans experiences. Although Yellow Belly isn’t specific to LGBTQIA+ news, I have always put those experiences first in my reporting, and I will continue to do so with this initiative.
